Pointz: Developing a Game-Changing Bike Safety App

Pointz is a bike safety app, available on the App Store and Google Play, that offers services that help people feel confident on their bikes. Features include safer customized routing, 24/7 emergency roadside assistance, and bike maintenance tracking. To provide safer routing, roads are rated on a 1-5 bike friendliness scale based on traffic and infrastructure. Riders can search for routes and customzie them with the safety slider and elevation, shortcuts, and surface toggles. Similar to Waze, people crowdsource additional information like road closures, surface issues, and tricky intersections.

Join Maggie as she tells the story of how she came up with the idea and what work she did to prepare for building the application. She will dive into the customer discovery work, which frameworks were used, and what worked and what didn’t.

The presentation will also cover testing different business models, interpreting the results and why freemium was the right choice (at least for now).
